| Sixty years ago, in the great age of hand craftsmanship, English gunmaking achieved a standard of excellence which will never be surpassed. While it is the dream of many game shooters to own an English "best" shotgun, the cost of such a work of art puts it beyond reach of all but a very few. AyA has created a range of shotguns that incorporate the very best technical features of the traditional English guns, yet have the advantage of substantially lower manufacturing costs. These guns are built entirely in AyA's factory in Eibar, the birthplace of Spain's gunmaking industry. Disc-Set Strikers With lessor guns, the striker is an integral part of the tumbler. These are simpler to make, but requires the replacement of the entire tumbler when the striker becomes worn. All AyA side-by-sides are fitted with disc-set strikers. The striker is a seperate piece with its own return spring, either of which can be replaced individually. This is a feature of all London "bests". Locks The steel used in AyA locks and springs is the very best available, and exclusive to AyA. The locks and actions are engraved entirely by hand, with superb attention to detail. Each AyA is a unique work of art. Chopper-Lump Forgings With chopper-lump forgings, the barrel and the lump are forged from a single piece of steel, resulting in unequalled strength and uniformity. This means however that there is no margin of error in manufacturing: one mistake in shaping the lump and the entire barrel must be scrapped. Replaceable Hinge-Pin After exceptionally long service, a gun may "shoot loose". Such a gun can be returned to its original tightness only by fitting a new hinge pin. With lesser guns, the hinge pin is an integral part of the frame and cannot be replaced. All AyA guns have removable, replaceable hinge pins to give them another lifetime of use. |
